Hey All,
Well, I'm home, on crutches, and the staples were removed December 23, and may I say OUCH! I've stopped all pain medication and haven't had a solid nights sleep since that move. Anyways, I'm doing well according to my doctor and my therapist. My doctor thinks I'll be using a cane in a week, but my therapist said my doctor is crazy and his job is now over. OOPS! Just a bit of a disagreement there, but I must agree with the therapist on this point. My leg hasn't quite woken up completely yet...something my doctor failed to inform me of...but it is slowly waking up. Now the hard part is re-training my brain to use the leg, and that is the hard part. Apparently I've protected this leg for so many years that I now can't use it without really concentrating and even then sometimes it still won't work the way I ask it to. Kind of strange if you ask me, but the therapist tells me that one day I'll wake up and just walk again without the crutches and without even thinking about it. I hope that day comes real soon, he thinks maybe a few months from now, and I hope a few weeks from now, but I think the therapist will probably win this one too. Anyways, I found it funny when they asked me if I need help learning how to use crutches. (LOL!!!) I politely told them no, that I was on crutches for three long years and it should be like riding a bike. Well, it was just like riding a bike again, I remembered everything without even thinking about it, I scared the bejezus out of a few people with some of my maneuvers, but oh well they learned quickly that I needed no help. The only things my body didn't remember it soon learned...my armpits and heels of my hands are killing me. Yes, no emails please telling me not to use the armpits, but when you are carrying a plate of food or drink you have to use your armpits OKAY.
Anyways, I love you all and I hope your holidays are something to remember. It's Christmas and I'm so very happy. I miss my Hannah, but maybe next year she and David can come for the holidays. Like I said I can hope. I'll post some pictures after the holidays for you all.
Love,
Robin
