I'm Back!

Hey All,

Well, I'm home, on crutches, and the staples were removed December 23, and may I say OUCH! I've stopped all pain medication and haven't had a solid nights sleep since that move. Anyways, I'm doing well according to my doctor and my therapist. My doctor thinks I'll be using a cane in a week, but my therapist said my doctor is crazy and his job is now over. OOPS! Just a bit of a disagreement there, but I must agree with the therapist on this point. My leg hasn't quite woken up completely yet...something my doctor failed to inform me of...but it is slowly waking up. Now the hard part is re-training my brain to use the leg, and that is the hard part. Apparently I've protected this leg for so many years that I now can't use it without really concentrating and even then sometimes it still won't work the way I ask it to. Kind of strange if you ask me, but the therapist tells me that one day I'll wake up and just walk again without the crutches and without even thinking about it. I hope that day comes real soon, he thinks maybe a few months from now, and I hope a few weeks from now, but I think the therapist will probably win this one too. Anyways, I found it funny when they asked me if I need help learning how to use crutches. (LOL!!!) I politely told them no, that I was on crutches for three long years and it should be like riding a bike. Well, it was just like riding a bike again, I remembered everything without even thinking about it, I scared the bejezus out of a few people with some of my maneuvers, but oh well they learned quickly that I needed no help. The only things my body didn't remember it soon learned...my armpits and heels of my hands are killing me. Yes, no emails please telling me not to use the armpits, but when you are carrying a plate of food or drink you have to use your armpits OKAY.
Anyways, I love you all and I hope your holidays are something to remember. It's Christmas and I'm so very happy. I miss my Hannah, but maybe next year she and David can come for the holidays. Like I said I can hope. I'll post some pictures after the holidays for you all.
Love,
Robin

It's almost time!

Well, surgery day is almost upon me. I know I haven't posted since October, but I will update my blog once I get home from the hospital and can actually sit down and think clearly. Hopefully that will only be about a week, maybe two weeks, we shall see. Wish me luck.

From Britney To Bradley: A Hypocritical Effect List

Okay, I was on my way home from work and listening to NPR radio. Brian Unger came on and was on a roll about effects, i.e. the "Bradly Effect", the "Madonna Effect", etc. It was pretty funny, so I thought I had to post this once I got home. Click on the link below and it should take you directly to the sound bite from NPR online radio. Laugh if you will, giggle if you might, I know I did. Enjoy!

Finally!

Okay, I've decided to have that dreaded hip replacement surgery. I've decided to have it done in early December 2008. What!?! you say. Well, after several years of limping along and especially the past 6 months of steroid shots, I've decided I'm Finally ready. The doctor tells me that I will be out of work about 3 maybe 4 weeks. That seems, well, kind of short, but okay then let's do it. He then told me he will make my legs the same length again. Now that is exciting news! My legs haven't been the same length since I was 9 years old. I wonder if it will be difficult to adjust to having them the same length? Guess I will find out. This means I will be out of commission for Christmas, too. I asked Savanah if we could have Christmas at her new apartment this year and she and Dallas have agreed. I just don't think I'll be up to the task of cooking and cleaning by the time Christmas comes around. I think it will be fun to have it at her apartment anyways. Well, just wanted to let you all know.

The Next Gerber Baby (or I think so)!!!

This should be the next Gerber baby! Isn't he just the cutest little boy ever? This picture was taken at the barber shop just before his first birthday. He is such a happy little guy. I just can't get enough of him either. Can you tell I'm a proud Grandma?

Ambergris Caye, Central America

Wow! Ambergris Caye is a beautiful place to be. The people are extremely nice and helpful and they all seem to be so happy, which makes sense when you see the beauty of this place. The ocean is so blue and clear and the reef is amazing. What a place for my daughter's wedding! I will never forget my amazing time on the island or the wonderful people who live there. Check out the view I had from the balcony of the Villa we all stayed at. Notice where the water is breaking, that is the barrier reef. Isn't this just a beautiful place? Wish I were still there. I guess there is always hope.
